Cultural News — from my own wide-angle lens

Oxford Languages defines culture as the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively. By my interpretation, regarded collectively means that these things are recognized by both members of the culture and others alike. By my interpretation, regarded collectively means that it must be learned, or taught, because no one is born knowing. By my interpretation, regarded collectively means that  I  have an opportunity to teach and learn through whatever means I choose. Granted, I do not have many opportunities to travel, so I consume other media to deepen my understanding and regard of other cultures. News is one outlet, and because most news is dominated by politics and things of the like, news can be redefined as anything new, to me, or to the world. News could be reading an article that's a couple weeks (months?) old, writing about a new trip, or learning about a tradition or custom. My version of news may not be typical, but at the very least it is interesting and valuable, to me if no one else.

About the author

Hi! I'm Sara. I attend Bishop Diego High School in Santa Barbara, CA. I love to learn — particularly about the history, traditions, beliefs, and customs of countries all over the world. Eventually,  I  hope to immerse myself in global cultures through travel, truly experiencing all that they have to offer. For now, though,  I  pursue my interests by reading global news articles, exploring international culinary delights, and — my favorite — reading books written by authors from other countries. Writing provides an avenue for me to appreciate the similarities and celebrate the differences of all of the people and places of the world. I hope you will join me on my journey to explore it all!

P.S. - I do not engage with social media. I made the conscious decision before entering high school that, for me, social media is best reserved as a creative outlet after I graduate. As a result, promoting Prologue to the Plane, and sharing my journey, is a challenge. If you do engage with social media, and you feel so inclined, please feel free to share Prologue to the Plane on your preferred platforms. Thank you in advance for helping to share my journey!
